Career Advising and Professional Development (CAPD) resources available

Dear MIT Community,

We are writing to follow up regarding several Career Advising and Professional Development (CAPD) resources that are still available to undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs, and recent alumni. During this time of transition and uncertainty CAPD is here to meet remotely, and will be offering several virtual options throughout the remainder of the semester. We understand that our stakeholders likely have many questions, and have created a CAPD FAQ page that will be updated on a regular basis as new information continues to become available.

Phone and video appointments

Career Services, Distinguished Fellowships, and Prehealth Advising staff are still available to meet by video or by phone. Students, postdocs, and recent alumni can schedule an appointment through CareerBridge, powered by Handshake. Once logged in, click on "Career Center" and then "appointment" to select an option that best matches your needs. After booking a video appointment, be on the lookout for a follow-up email with instructions for either Webex or Zoom. If you are in a different time zone and need to connect with a staff member, please let us know so that we can see what accommodations can be made.

Spring Career Fair now a Virtual Career Fair – April 8

We are working on finalizing details for the Virtual Spring Career Fair now taking place on April 8. During this online event, students will be able to meet with employers in a virtual environment through the use of chat rooms. Similar to an in-person career fair, students can share their resume and chat with employers about current or future opportunities. Employer registration is ongoing and we are working to offer opportunities for students to meet with employers from a diverse range of industries. We encourage you to refer to the Virtual Career Fair portal for the most up to date list of registered employers.

Navigating uncertainty regarding your summer experience plans

CAPD staff can provide assistance if summer experience plans change. Here are a few tips to identify new opportunities and CAPD staff are always available for remote appointments to discuss and brainstorm additional opportunities.

Considering or preparing for graduate school

Graduate schools or programs may be offering virtual information sessions. Interested students should consider attending to learn more about top choices and ask questions. A student who is in the process of applying to graduate school can draft application essays and schedule a virtual appointment with CAPD or the Writing and Communication Center to have them reviewed. Students who are currently scheduled to take a standardized test (GREGMATLSATMCAT) should check online for information on rescheduling and postponed exams.

CareerBridge alerts and email notifications

We encourage all eligible students, postdocs, and alumni to complete their account profile in CareerBridge so as to receive alerts and notifications about opportunities which are aligned with specific interests as soon as they are posted. Users can favorite employers and receive emails and notifications about new internship and job postings, get invited to upcoming virtual career fairs and programs, and receive reminders about approaching deadlines.

If you are in need of assistance with making an appointment or have any additional questions, please call 617-715-5329 Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm or email us directly at capd@mit.edu.

Best,

Career Advising and Professional Development
