MIT extends reduced campus operations

With the news that Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker on Tuesday extended his stay-at-home order for the state through May 18, the MIT campus will continue in its own mode of limited operations.

Existing MIT guidance regarding access to campus, research activity, travel and meetings, online instruction, and remote work remains in effect until further notice from MIT.

Throughout this period of reduced on-campus operation, MIT has remained a vibrant network of remote activity. Online instruction encompassing over 1,200 courses continues to evolve, a virtual commencement has been mapped out, planning for a gradual increase in research activity on campus is in full swing, and ongoing scenario planning for the fall is underway. Institute leaders have been consulting with faculty, staff, and students on all of these fronts, and will continue to do so.

Watch for notices of upcoming Town Hall meetings and other virtual gatherings as the Institute reaches out to engage the community on plans for the future. Whatever comes, MIT will find the best balance among community well-being, public health, and the gradual restoration of our shared life on campus.
